Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay is an educator by profession, an entrepreneur by approach, and a dreamer by heart who is passionate about internationalization of higher education and positioning it on the world stage. He champions global collaboration, bold revival of pedagogy, and bringing social conscience into the realm of management education and practices.
He is a mentor and advisor to AACSB and a founding member of the EFMD Indian Business Council. He was conferred with the first 'Y K Bhushan Memorial Award' in 2022 – instituted by the Higher Education Foundation of India – for his 'outstanding contribution to management education'.
As the Vice Chancellor of Vijaybhoomi University, he positioned it as India's first liberal-professional university. As a result, the university now practices a liberal-professional framework of education to build a unique curriculum and pedagogy aligned with Industry 4.0. This curriculum and pedagogy facilitate self-discovery in the initial year and thereafter offer a choice of majors and minors in Business, Music, Data Science, Law, and Design.
While the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 led many educational institutions to reconsider their philosophy, Vijaybhoomi University, established in 2019, was way ahead in setting the education philosophy in line with the recommendations of NEP and emerged as a front runner in implementing the NEP in its true spirit.
A staunch advocate of aligning higher education in India with global best practices, Dr. Chattopadhyay has developed education model in India along the lines of top global universities and thus crafted collaborations with international universities such as University at Albany of the State University of New York (SUNY), Texas A&M University, Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Texas (Arlington), KEDGE Business School, and HSLU Lucerne.
Dr. Chattopadhyay has led two institutions into the AACSB accreditation hall of fame – JAGSoM and IMT-Ghaziabad. Under his leadership, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) entered the list of Top-10 business schools of India. The 'Global Fast Track Programme' of SPJIMR owes its inception to his vision and innovation. The Sustainability & Social Responsibility (SSR) and Design Thinking & Innovation (DT&l) courses at IMT-Ghaziabad are also the results of his vision and imagination. In fact, the courses of IMT-G also made it to the 'Innovations that Inspire' list of AACSB.
His passion to never let business curriculum or pedagogy fall behind industry needs of tomorrow has also led him to introduce a unique curriculum at JAGSoM to groom the T-shaped professional. This innovative curriculum blends disciplinary training with an emphasis on technology so that the students are prepared to apply technology in all aspect of business management, from marketing, to HR, to Finance, and more. With him at the helm, JAGSoM also achieved the QS World University Rankings for the Masters in Marketing, Masters in Analytics, and Masters in Finance programs.
